Systems & Structures - What Counts?

Block three, Systems & Structures, outlines policy, divisional implementation requirements, and school-based service delivery models. The Three-Block Model of UDL links frameworks such as RTI (Response to Intervention), Co-Teaching, school turnaround, and research on effective inclusive education practices in one, seamless framework for 21st century education.

Critical Pieces:
  1. Policy - No exceptions to inclusive policy. You cannot claim to be inclusive, but segregate "just them" (e.g kids with behavioral challenges)
  2. Leadership - research shows the role of the principal is critical to systems change.
  3. Service delivery - collaboration amongst clinicians, special education personnel, classroom teachers, and families/communities.
  4. Teacher professional development, with time for planning and collegial dialogue.
